JERSEY CITY — A committee hoping to overturn the City Council's decision to move the Katyn monument to York Street failed to submit the required number of valid signatures, City Clerk Robert Byrne said Monday.
Petitioners, who need signatures from 6,714 valid Jersey City voters, submitted 3,833 valid signatures out of the 9,471 total they delivered on July 3, according to Byrne. The group leading the charge to keep the controversial statue at Exchange Place has 10 days to amend the petition with valid signatures.
